After Salman Khan snubbed Filmfare awards last month, now filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to his social media platform on Thursday to slam the award show where he said his film — The Kashmir Files — was nominated in seven different categories.

Taking to Twitter, Vivek announced that he has “politely refused” to be a part of the awards. Check his tweet here:

Vivek listed out his reasons as to why he has pulled out his film from the awards event. According to him, filmmaker are not given their due credit and “other than the stars, nobody has a face. Nobody matters.” Vivek also went on to say that because of this practice, film directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Anees Bazmee and Sooraj Bharjatia have been sidelined and instead stars like Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt and Kartik Aaryan, among others, have hogged all the limelight.

Vivek also pointed out that film technicians and people behind the camera, who contribute in a big way, are ignored. He wrote, “I refuse to be part of any oppressive and corrupt system or awards which treats writers, directors and other HODs & crew members of a film inferior to and/or as slaves to stars.”

Last month, Salman Khan had taken a dig at the Filmfare awards while announcing their new event. He had opened up about the time he was nominated for Maine Pyaar Kiya, and how he was promised an award. But when he did not win the award that was promised to him, he felt “betrayed”.

Before Salman, Aamir Khan had dismissed award shows and has stopped attending such events from the initial days in his career. It was reported that the actor was nominated for his film Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander (1992) and he was expecting to win. However, Anil Kapoor was awarded the Filmfare award for Beta. Aamir faced a similar situation when Shah Rukh Khan took home all the awards in 1995 for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, while Aamir, who had given a thunderous performance in Rangeela, was left disappointed. This led the actor to decide he’ll never attend award shows, and he has maintained that stance ever since.

In the past several actors like Rishi Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut, Varun Dhawan,  Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others have dissed awards shows openly.
