Actor Aanjjan Srivastav, who first gained fame with Wagle Ki Duniya, worked as a banker while starring in films and shows. During the filming of Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah, in which Aanjjan played a small role, he was asked by his bank’s chairman to get an appointment with Big B. When the chairman asked the appointment to be set up in Delhi, Bachchan offered to meet him at Prateeksha, his residence in Mumbai.
Aanjjan, in a chat with Rajshri Unplugged, recalled that meeting and said that Bachchan put in a good word for him that made his life easier at the bank. The actor said that on the day of the meeting, he reached his branch a little late because he assumed that he had already fixed up a meeting and thus, his job was done. But upon reaching his office, he realised that everyone was in panic mode as Bachchan had refused to come down and take the meeting until Aanjjan was also present with them. “Amit ji wasn’t coming down because he asked, ‘Where is Aanjjan?’ I reached there and that’s when Amit ji came down,” he recalled.
The meeting started with Amitabh Bachchan telling the chairman that Aanjjan Srivastav was trying to balance both his jobs – actor and banker, and it was quite difficult. “He told the chairman, ‘Aanjjan has a job. I have also done a job in Calcutta. Working in the industry along with holding a job is difficult, so I wish him all the success.’ He just had to say this much. When the chairman came out, he asked the manager, ‘Does he have enough leaves?’ The manager said ‘not many’ so the chairman said, ‘Let him go on leaves without pay, there should be no problem,'” he recalled.
Aanjjan recalled that he kept going on leaves with pay and there was no problem after that. “Just this one line from Amit ji, it was a big thing,” he said.
Aanjjan Srivastav’s bank was involved with ABCL later when Amitabh Bachchan’s firm had taken a few loans from the bank. The company went bankrupt and Amitabh faced a tough time. After KBC and a few hits in the early 2000s, Amitabh recovered financially.
