Filmmaker Kiran Rao, who is gearing up for the release of her comedy-drama Laapataa Ladies, had previously revealed that her ex-husband, actor Aamir Khan, was interested in playing the role that eventually went to Ravi Kishan, and that the star had even auditioned for it. Aamir has revealed some more details about his screen test, and why he decided not to do the film. Laapataa Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande.
Appearing at the ABP Majha event with Kiran, Aamir said, “The story was really good, and there was a very good character in it. I thought I would offer this story to Kiran, she might like it. I wanted to do a role in the film, and Kiran said, ‘You are a very big star, my film is small, you will disbalance it.’ I said, ‘At least let me give a screen test, let’s see if I suit the role or not.’ So, I gave the screen test.”
Aamir said that he gave the screen test and it went very well. He added, “After giving the screen test, both Kiran and I liked it, but we both feared that if I come as a star, people will have expectations. We felt that I should not be in the film in any case.”
The PK actor said that he suggested changing his appearance fully, like Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. He told Kiran, “Main huliya badal dunga,” to which Kiran replied, “Toh faida kya hai.” Aamir said that he lost the debate with Kiran and decided not to do the film.
Laapataa Ladies is about two young brides who get separated during a train journey in rural India in 2001. Ravi Kishan plays a policeman who takes on the task of investigating the case.
