Aamir Khan, who is now known as a ‘perfectionist’, was in the early stages of his career when he made it clear that every element of his film needed to be perfect. And one of the films that first saw this avatar of the actor was Mahesh Bhatt’s Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi, which was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and starred his daughter Pooja Bhatt. In a recent interview, Mahesh recalled and said that Aamir actually spent 10 hours to finalise the cap his character would wear in the film.
Talking to Radio Nasha, Aamir said, “He discussed what the cap should look like for 10 hours.” After the success of the film, the style of Aamir’s cap was loved by his fans as they wore it proudly. “When the film works, the clothes work,” he added. Bhatt also recalled working with the actor in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. He shared that in the period before Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi, Aamir had seen a few flops but after the success of that film, the team of the actor-director was bound to work together again. “It was a great experience,” Bhatt said.
In an earlier chat with Digital Commentary, Tiku Talsania, who was a part of Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, said that Aamir once cancelled the film’s shoot because he didn’t agree with Bhatt’s vision. Calling Aamir a “genius”, Tiku said, “There is a scene where the workers are singing the song ‘Chikni Surat’. So in the film when the delivery of the shirts is ready, it was me, Mushtaq Khan and Aamir in the scene. Aamir cancelled the shooting that day. His father was standing outside, very angrily saying, ‘My son has cancelled the shooting.’” When Tiku asked Mahesh, he just said, “‘Arre kya bataun ye Aamir.”
Recalling the reason behind cancelling the shoot, Tiku said, “He (Aamir) said you got the entire song sung by the crowd in the factory and when we are taking the shirts of the first order that we completed in time, we need that crowd to be there. It can’t be just between the three of us. That is the genius of Aamir Khan, the detailing.”
Mahesh Bhatt had previously said that Aamir was a “victim” of his perfection and told Pinkvilla that Aamir was “a man who is caught in his idea of life being a document that can be perfected. A sincere boy but a victim of an ailment of the burden of perfection which kind of weighs you and people around you.”
In an earlier chat with indianexpress.com, Mahesh had said that he left Ghulam because Aamir wanted him to dedicate his life to it. “I choose to walk away from it. I told Aamir, I didn’t think movies meant so much to me that I would dedicate my entire life to it. It doesn’t mean so much to me and I’d be lying if I say otherwise,” he said.
