"For Australia’s new ODI captain, this will be a first World Cup in charge of the team and third overall. Cummins made his ODI debut back in October 2011 but has only played 74 games more for the national team owing to injuries having put him out of action until 2015. While he was named the captain back in October 2022, Cummins has only featured in six ODIs since. With five and 14 wickets in his account over the last two editions respectively, the right-arm quick will be looking to produce his best outing in the tournament as Australia eye a sixth title. With Australia having won a World Test Championship and retained the Ashes twice under his captainship in the longer format, they can hope to extend their lead in terms of most world titles.
One-Day memory: 5/70 vs India at Mohali, 2019
Just ahead of the World Cup in 2019, Cummins packed a punch as he nabbed a maiden ODI fifer to help the Aussies level a five-match ODI series against India after going 2-0 down. The five-time champions went on to win the series 3-2.
One more thing: Cummins suffered his first injury barely at the age of three when his sister accidentally slammed the door on his middle finger, taking about a centimeter of his affected finger. ""It doesn't really affect me because the affected finger is about the same length as the other one (the index finger),"" Cummins has said on the matter."
