Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team, in a recent statement, clarified that they have submitted the paperwork and the required court fees related to the 12 billion KRW ($9M) lawsuit filed against late Kim Sae Ron’s family and the YouTube channel GaroSero. The actor’s one-man agency was rumoured to have been struggling with financial loss after a discrepancy was found in the court filing, and the team had requested a deadline extension after being unable to pay until the last date. But the actor’s legal firm, LKB & Partners, clarified that they only needed time to update the addresses of all defendants, and that’s where the mystery “fake aunt,” as mentioned by the lawyer, created some problems because of the unclear identity.
It all started after someone identifying herself as Kim Sae Ron’s aunt accused Kim Soo Hyun of having an inappropriate relationship with the late Bloodhounds actor after her tragic death. Together with the GaroSero YouTube channel and the bereaved family, she has since come forward with alleged evidence, including photos, KakaoTalk screenshots, and letters to prove her claims.

Later, when YouTuber Lee Jin Ho – who revealed Kim Sae Ron’s past dating life, marriage and claims that Kim Soo Hyun had nothing to do with her death – asked about this “fake aunt” threatening legal action, the bereaved family defended her, saying, “Mr. Lee Jin Ho, there is no such person in this family. The aunt is simply Sae Ron’s aunt, that is all. No harm done, ever. In fact, if there were someone falsely claiming to be Sae Ron’s relative, we would be the ones taking legal action, not you. I don’t understand why you are doing this. Why do I even waste time explaining this? Do you think that by constantly diverting the issue, the public will forget what you have done?”

Now, referring to the same aunt, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team, in a recent statement via Daum, mentioned that one of the defendants in the case is an unidentified woman. The court paperwork needs at least one piece of info, a name, phone number, or ID number, to officially identify her. Right now, none of that is known, but Kim Soo Hyun’s team says it’s only a matter of time. “If even one identifier—like a phone number—is available, we can verify her identity. She’s also facing a criminal complaint, so the investigative agency will eventually identify her,” the lawyer said. The team is also looking at call records of other defendants to track her down. She’s being treated as a key figure in the whole case.
On the other hand, YouTuber Lee Jin Ho, who despite being warned against posting anything defamatory against the late actor, claimed that Kim Sae Ron had been struggling financially since 2023. To back his claims, he said, “In February 2025, a man identified only as ‘Mr. A’ showed up at a real estate office during her funeral and tried to steal her villa’s security deposit, which was worth about 50 million KRW (~$37,000 USD).” According to him, Sae Ron was borrowing money from close friends until some educational company stepped in to help her with the deposit. When she passed away, someone allegedly tried to illegally claim that money.
