Kim Soo Hyun, in an emergency press conference on Monday, denied all allegations against him related to Kim Sae Ron. He stated that if he could go back in time, he would still keep his relationship private to protect the people he was responsible for. He even mentioned his popular K-drama Queen of Tears with Kim Ji Won, saying that if people had known about his relationship with Kim Sae Ron, it would have ruined the show and the efforts of the cast and crew.

The Its Okay to Not be Okay star denied ever dating Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. He clarified that their relationship began only a year and a half ago and had already ended before the controversy. Amid the scandal, the South Korean star is facing intense backlash from both the public and media. As a result, he lost several brand deals, with Prada being the latest to cut ties, and suffered major financial setbacks.

A surprising increase in Instagram followers

Despite all the backlash, on Tuesday, Koreaboo reported how the actor’s Instagram witnessed a sudden uptick. His follower count increased. According to the numbers, Kim Soo Hyun’s Instagram has over 20 million followers, but in the past month, he had lost more than 1 million followers because of the scrutiny. However, on April 1, just one day after his press conference, his followers started increasing again. For the first time in over 20 days, he gained more new followers than he lost. This sudden uptick has made people wonder if public opinion about him is starting to change.

Gold Medalist in serious financial trouble: report

Kim Soo Hyun’s management agency, Gold Medalist, is struggling with major financial issues, according to K-media outlet, Newsen. Reports say the company is running out of money, largely because of the scandal surrounding their top star, Kim Soo Hyun and late actor Kim Sae Ron. Gold Medalist is accused of trying to extort money from the Bloodhounds star after her DUI accident.

Some reports claim that, due to financial struggles, the agency has started cutting costs wherever possible. For example, they have reportedly stopped using external cleaning services to save money. They once had ₩2.0-3.0 billion KRW ($1.36-2.04 million USD) in reserve, but that money has almost disappeared after the scandal. Kim Soo Hyun has lost over 20 brand endorsements, which has hurt both him and the agency financially. His upcoming Disney+ drama, Knock Off, might also be affected, and if it gets canceled, he could face heavy financial penalties. Now, Gold Medalist is looking for investors to stay afloat.

Experts believe that Kim Soo Hyun’s emotional press conference was not just about defending himself. It may have also been a move to save his agency from collapsing. “I wonder if things would have been different if I had spoken out earlier. Maybe then, my fans and the people at my agency wouldn’t have suffered so much,” the actor admitted while wiping away his tears during the press conference. On the other hand, Kim Soo Hyun has filed a ₩12.0 billion KRW ($8.15 million USD) lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and GaroSero Research Institute.
