It’s Okay to Not Be Okay star Seo Ye Ji has been dealing with a slew of cyberattacks and malicious comments for years. Now, after a long investigation, her agency, Sublime, has finally unmasked the person behind the online smear campaign against her, and it’s someone shockingly close to the industry, possibly even once close to her. On April 3, the agency released a statement confirming they had taken legal action. Seo Ye Ji first got caught up in controversy in 2021 when bullying accusations against her – while in school – resurfaced, followed by her infamous text exchange with Kim Jung Hyun. Last month, a former employee of her previous agency, Gold Medalist, alleged that Seo Ye Ji had been used as a scapegoat to cover up the agency’s internal issues.

Now, according to Sublime, the main culprit is a former employee of Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, which is co-owned by his cousin, Lee Sa Rang. Seo Ye Ji had already been linked to both Kim Soo Hyun and his agency in past controversies. More recently, The Eve star issued a clarification stating that she is not involved in the scandal amid ongoing accusations against Kim Soo Hyun related to the late actor Kim Sae Ron.

On April 3, the agency released a statement confirming they have taken legal action. “To respond to the malicious slander and false information directed at Seo Ye Ji, we formed a team and filed the first complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in January,” Sublime said according to the Qoo. The agency made it clear that they won’t let this slide. “We will track down everyone until the end so that the law can punish them. We will also take strong legal action for criminal acts taking place online. We will take action without leniency or compromise to protect our actors.”

Further, they added that more people involved in spreading false information are currently being identified and will face legal consequences. Fans were taken aback by the revelation, and soon, support started pouring in for the actor. “If I found out that someone I worked with was spreading false information about me, I would have been so frustrated,” a netizen wrote. Another chimed in, “We need to dig up everything about Gold Medalist.”

What did Seo Ye Ji say about the Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron controversy?

In March, after the controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero accused Kim Soo Hyun of dating Kim Sae Ron when she was underage, Seo Ye Ji, who has mostly stayed silent on past controversies, addressed the issue on her Fan Cafe when her name was dragged into it again. Some online speculations hinted at her being indirectly involved in the drama surrounding Kim Soo Hyun’s alleged two-timing Kim Sae Ron while the late actress was reportedly going through mental distress. A fan even asked Seo Ye Ji about these claims in her fan café, and she denied any involvement.

Seo Ye Ji, who starred alongside Kim Soo Hyun in Netflix’s popular K-drama Its Okay Not to Be Okay, expressed feeling exhausted and suffocated by the constant hate and being dragged into a controversy she insists she has no connection to apart from being just co-stars. “Just… please… stop… I swear… I have no personal relations whatsoever with that person or his older brother… I don’t know why I have to explain any of this,” she pleaded, admitting that she tried to suppress her emotions but found herself almost responding to the accusations before deleting her words.

Following her 2022 controversy, Seo Ye Ji stepped away from the spotlight and has taken on only a handful of projects since—including Eve, which performed well on Netflix. But just two days ago, it was revealed that she’s making a comeback as a host for episode 2 of SNL Korea season 7. In a statement, Coupang Play said, “Through her first comedy stage, Seo Ye Ji will showcase a transformation unlike anything seen before and reveal a wide spectrum of charm that will captivate viewers.”
