SS Rajamouli is currently busy shooting for his yet untitled adventure epic ‘SSMB29’ starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The film’s pre-release buzz has already bagged the record of the widest release slate for any Indian film ever, over Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which held the previous record for the most countries the film released in. Rajamouli’s new film will have a grand global release in over 120 countries around the world, whereas Pathaan was released in 100 countries at the time. These are monumental figures for an Indian production. Just for comparison, the recent biggie from Indian cinema, Coolie too got its release in over 100 countries. Previous blockbusters like Vijay’s Greatest of All Time and Jr NTR starrer Devara had global releases in 40 countries and 90 countries, respectively.
Rajamouli and team has recently wrapped up the shooting of the Kenya schedule of the film, being explained by the director as a ‘swashbuckling, Indiana Jones-like globe-trotting adventure’. Kenya was one of the major locations for the film. Recently, Musalia W Mudavadi, a minister with the Kenyan government took to his twitter handle to thanks Rajamouli and team for the smooth production schedule, he wrote, “Kenya this past fortnight became the stage for one of the world’s greatest filmmakers, @ssrajamouli, the visionary Indian director, screenwriter, and storyteller whose works have captured the imagination of audiences across continents.”
The tweet also encapsulated the shooting terrain and location covered by the team in Kenya, also hinting the sweeping scope and grandeur of the director’s follow up to RRR. “From the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara to the scenic Naivasha, the rugged Samburu, and the iconic Amboseli, Kenya’s landscapes are now etched into what is set to become the largest film production in Asia. Scheduled for release in over 120 countries, the movie is expected to reach more than a billion viewers worldwide,” he added. The project is said to be an adaptation of two Wilbur Smith novels and is based on a story idea by V Vijeyendra Prasad, with Rajamouli himself penning the screenplay. The team released the first look poster for the film recently and dropped the tentative title ‘Globe Trotter’. The first look is expected to be coming out in November, and the film will be released sometime in late 2027.
