Saripodhaa Sanivaaram (not a) teaser: Amid the sound of thunder, a car traverses a lane in the middle of an impoverished area, causing the residents to scatter in fear. “In ancient times, there was a demon named Narakasur. He used to trouble people a lot,” the narrator says as the car screeches to a halt in the centre of the area. Enter SJ Suryah, in a power-packed manner with a high-octane background score. Thus begins the latest promo video of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram.
Released on the occasion of Suryah’s 56th birthday on Saturday, the video is accompanied by a note clearly stating that this is “not a teaser,” hinting that it is more of a warning, urging everyone to “prepare (themselves) for the massive storm” that will hit the screens on August 29.
As the 80-second video progresses, it reveals that Suryah plays a ruthless cop, Dayanand, unhesitant to resort to torture against his rivals and those he catches. As he, the Narakasur, continues to reign unopposed, “Sri Krishna teamed up with Satyabhama to…” the promo cuts to show glimpses of Nani and Priyanka Mohan preparing to bring the devil down.
The (not a) teaser ends with Nani sitting in the middle of a burning area, with rivals lying on the ground after being thrashed and blood splattered on his face. “Happy birthday sir,” he says, as we see a manic Dayanand in uniform, laughing devilishly, smoking a cigarette, and lying inside a bloodstained lockup.
Helmed by Vivek Athreya, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is produced by DVV Entertainment. Also starring Sai Kumar P, the film’s music is composed by Jakes Bejoy, with Murali G as the DOP and Karthika Srinivas as the editor. The stunts have been choreographed by Ram Laxman and Real Satish.
In February this year, the makers had unveiled a 195-second promo that introduced Nani’s character as Surya. The teaser had offered glimpses of his physical strength as he single-handedly took on his rivals. As this teaser was unveiled on the occasion of Nani’s 40th birthday, just like Nani wished Suryah in the new video, the latter was seen extending greetings to the former in the earlier teaser. “Happy Birthday, brother, mwah,” he said with a devilish laugh.
