Shaakuntalam is not living up to the expectations that the film crew and Samantha Ruth Prabhu had set for the film during all the promotions ahead of the film’s release. After watching the film for the first time, Sam hyped it up in an Instagram post. She wrote, “And I finally watched the movie today! Gunashekar garu. You have my heart. What a beautiful film! One of our greatest epics brought to life so endearingly! I can’t wait for our family audiences to be swept away by powerful emotions! And all you kids out there… you’re going to love our magical world!” However, the film is struggling at the box office collecting less than Rs 10 crore in four days.
A Telugu film producer named Chittibabu has criticised Samantha saying that her career is ‘finished’. He said that the days of stardom are over, and she should do whatever offers she gets from now on. The producer also claimed that Samantha is indulging in ‘cheap tactics’ to promote the film. “During Yashoda promotions, Samantha shed tears and tried to make the film a hit. Now, with Shaakuntalam, she again tried to get sympathy by saying that she wanted to do the role before her death. On record, she said that she was unable to speak as she is not able to get her voice out,” Babu told a YouTube channel. However, his comments received severe backlash from the fans in the comments section, who called them ‘cheap and distasteful’.
However, Samantha seems to have already moved on to her other projects. Quoting Bhagavad Gita in an Instagram post, she seems to have addressed the underwhelming response to the film calling that she can only do her duty, and can’t control the outcome. She wrote, “You can only do your karma, and can’t be the authority of it. One should not perform karma with the desire for reward.”
Samantha will next be teaming up with Vijay Deverakonda in a film, which is titled Kushi. The film has been long delayed due to Samantha’s health issues. She will also appear in the Indian arm of Russo Brothers’ Citadel.
