Director SS Rajamouli’s Oscar-winning film RRR has been courting various controversies over the last few months, in parallel to its huge success in the US. Recently, there have been rumours about the filmmaker spending handsomely on the film’s awards season campaign in the United States, which concluded with a Best Original Song win at the Oscars. Recently, the film’s producer DVV Danayya addressed the rumours of Rajamouli spending somewhere around Rs 80 crore on the film’s promotions in the US.

Ahead of Oscars 2023, RRR was screened at various theatres across the States, and the film’s two lead actors, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, appeared on several talk shows to spread the word about it. A few media reports suggested that the two actors also spent Rs 25 crore each to support RRR’s Oscar campaign, but this was after Danayya refused to invest in the campaign.

Talking to Telugu360.com, Danayya said, “I also heard about the money spent for the Oscar campaign. I haven’t spent any money on the campaign and I am not aware of what happened exactly. But no one spends Rs 80 crores for an award event. There would be no profits involved in it.”

RRR won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category for its song “Naatu Naatu”. The trophy was accepted by the composer of the song, MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose. Rajamouli, Charan and NTR Jr cheered from their seats in the audience.

Earlier, Danayya had expressed happiness after RRR’s win at the Golden Globes, also for “Naatu Naatu“. He told ANI, “I am very proud to be the producer of the movie RRR. Thanks to SS Rajamouli for the movie. The whole unit worked very hard. More than 30 days of rehearsals were held. The song was shot in Ukraine. Thanks to PM Modi, AP CM Jagan, and former CM Chandrababu Naidu for the tweets.”

A few days back, veteran Telugu filmmaker Tammareddy Bharadwaja alleged that RRR was made on a whopping budget of Rs 600 crore and Rajamouli spent another Rs 80 crore for its Oscar promotions. RRR grossed over Rs 1100 crore worldwide, and went on to become a cult phenomenon in the US.
