Despite skyrocketing to national fame overnight and receiving an unparalleled debut, Priya Prakash Varrier’s stardom faded quickly, leaving her with the challenge of proving herself to sustain her presence in the industry. However, this proved to be an arduous task as the very same audience that propelled her wink in the film Oru Adaar Love to viral status abandoned her, branding the young actor as overhyped.
Subjected to relentless trolling for the same reasons that brought her fame, the 23-year-old artist is currently making commendable efforts in the world of cinema, gradually experiencing the sweetness of success. Following her noteworthy performances in the Malayalam movies Live and Kolla this year, Priya Varrier is now gearing up for the biggest film in her career, Bro, the Telugu fantasy comedy starring Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej in the lead roles.
Expressing her admiration for the Tamil original Vinodhaya Sitham, Priya emphasised that the opportunity to collaborate with such big stars was truly a significant milestone for her, OTTPlay reported.
A remake of the 2021 Tamil film Vinodhaya Sitham, Bro, helmed by Samuthirakani and scripted by Trivikram Srinivas, is ready for release on July 28.
Elaborating on the impact the “wink girl” tag had on her life and career, Priya, according to South First, said: “For me, it is a blessing. I am grateful that it happened. It’s been like two years and just two films, but the Telugu people know me because of the ‘wink girl’ tag. I got global recognition because of that.”
“I come from a family which has no film background. Initially, I had nobody to guide me through. After my wink went viral, many people around me started saying too many things. I didn’t know what to do or who to listen to. I had none to guide me. Yes, I have made a few mistakes and bad choices. But now, I am making the right choices and making myself better,” she said.
Dubbing the chance to act alongside Pawan Kalyan as a blessing, Priya, during an interaction with Telugu media, noted that there was an aura around him, that she can’t put into words. “When he was on the sets, it was fun seeing him. I have many scenes with both the stars of the film Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej. I play a simple, homely girl Veena and she’ll have a unique look,” the actor said.
Referring to her initial setbacks, Priya said: “I may have made mistakes and bad choices but I am trying to get better with every opportunity.”
Mentioning that she didn’t get much time to interact with Pawan Kalyan and that her conversations with him were limited to a namaste, Priya said Sai Dharam Tej was, however, more of a friendly figure on sets. Recalling how they were pulling each other’s legs, she said: “He would make fun of me – always trying to get out of the mood. He is that naughty child on the sets. He had a lot of time to spend and chat on the sets and I made really good friends.”
