Director Nandini Reddy, one of the few female filmmakers in Telugu cinema, in an old YouTube interview, was all praises for actress Nithya Menen. The video clip has surfaced online and has become a hit among Nithya’s fans. In the video clip, Nandini recalls an incident when Nithya put her feet down saying she wouldn’t do a drunk scene. This, in turn, made Nandini stand up for herself against the producers who were forcing her to shoot the scene.
Director Nandini Reddy made her debut with the film Ala Modalaindi in 2011, which had Nani and Nithya Menen in lead roles. The film marked Nithya’s debut in Telugu, but she was bold enough to turn down a scene because it was out of place in the script.
Nandini said, “At one point they wanted me to write a scene where Nithya Menen gets drunk again. She said, ‘I am not going to do it. Do you think it is right?’ I said, ‘No but, I just want to finish this film.’ She was a kid. She was 21 and was just out of college. No films. No standing. She said, ‘Go tell them Nithya Menen will not do.’ She told it with just an attitude. A girl was telling me this, and then I realized that I needed to stand up for myself. So, I told the producer that I won’t do it. I told him, ‘I am not going to shoot it. If you want, you shoot it.'”
Youngsters trying to enter stardom often succumb to casting couch, exposing, exploitation. But you can fight it and stand for yourself. Respect to Nitya Menon for standing strong.

She added, “That was the first time I stood up for myself. And that’s because of Nithya Menen.”
Ala Modalaindi went on to become a hit, which propelled the careers of Nithya, Nandini, and Nani in the Telugu film industry. Nandini and Nithya again teamed up for the film Jabardasth. Nithya then acted in many Telugu films like Ishq, Okkadine, and more such hit films.
Currently, Nithya Menen is part of Jayam Ravi’s Kadhalikka Neramillai, directed by Krithika Udhayanidhi and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin.
