HanuMan vs Guntur Kaaram box office collection Day 10: Teja Sajja’s superhero film beats Mahesh Babu masala fare by a massive margin

HanuMan vs Guntur Kaaram box office collection Day 10: Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram opened spectacularly but it is Teja Sajja's HanuMan which has become the winner of this Sankranti race.

Sankranti 2023 is turning out to be a surprising one for Telugu cinema. Ahead of the festival, all eyes were on Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram, which marked the third collaboration of the Telugu star and director Trivikram Srinivas, whose last film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, turned out to be a pan-Indian success. However, once all the Sankranti releases hit the screens, the focus of the Telugu audience shifted towards Teja Sajja’s HanuMan, which is emerging as the sole box office winner.

Guntur Kaaram box office collection saw an upswing over the weekend but could not match up to HanuMan. On Day 9 (Saturday), Mahesh Babu’s film managed to collect Rs 3.25 crore at the domestic box office. While there were rising footfalls on Day 10, and the collection went up significantly, the film continued to lag behind HanuMan. On Day 10, Guntur Kaaram collected Rs 3.50 crore, taking the total box office collection of the film to Rs 118 crore. Meanwhile, HanuMan, which collected Rs 14.6 crore on Day 9, collected a whopping Rs 16.50 crore on Day 10. HanuMan box office collection is now over Rs 130 crore domestically, which has surpassed Mahesh Babu’s film by a huge margin.

The other Sankranti releases–Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga and Venkatesh’s Sanidhav–have so far managed to collect Rs 26 crore and 14 crore respectively. Clearly, HanuMan has become the preferred choice of the audience.

The outcome has surprised trade analysts and Telugu cinema fans as Mahesh Babu has one of the biggest markets in the industry. The film’s producer Naga Vamsi, recently at a press meet, said that the reason behind the initial setback with the film’s performance was due to the way Guntur Kaaram was promoted. He claimed having 1 am shows for Guntur Kaaram was counterproductive as people expected a film like KFG and Salaar. “This is a family cinema… a Trivikram film. I’m not comparing them but it was a mistake to release a Trivikram sir film, a mother-son bond film, at 1 am. It was not a good choice,” he said.
