Game Changer box office collection day 8: Game Changer couldn’t change the game for Ram Charan, despite featuring him in his first full-fledged lead role since RRR. Game Changer was released on January 10 with nearly 8000 (in all languages) shows across India, but now has just 1361. The film opened at Rs 51 crore in India, but earned just Rs 2.65 crore at the box office on its second Friday, bringing its total domestic nett collections to Rs 120.30 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
With just about 1361 shows in India in all languages, the film witnessed an overall occupancy of 18.11% in the Telugu language, 18.51% in the Tamil language and 14.52% in the Hindi language. On its release day, the film had a total 3891 shows in the Telugu language, which has now reduced down to 606 shows. In the Tamil region, the film has reduced from 877 to 160, and in the Hindi-language regions, the film has just 595 shows across India against 2591 shows on its first day. The film has met with the same fate as Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which was kicked out of theatres within its first week due to poor performance.
Game Changer, directed by S Shankar, was in the making since 2021. After multiple delays, the film, also starring Kiara Advani, finally released in theatres nearly four years after first being announced. The film also stars actors Anjali, SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, and Jayaram, among others. The film’s distributors were also accused of inflating opening day numbers.
The film opened to mixed reviews, and director Shankar admitted that he wasn’t satisfied with how it had turned out. In an interview with Behindwoods TV, the filmmaker said: “No filmmaker is ever satisfied with their film. I definitely feel like the film could have done better. There were so many good scenes, but they were trimmed, due to which we missed a lot of good things. I can’t put every scene in a three-hour film.”
He added, “The total duration of the film had gone up to five hours. It was like carving a statue. If you want to carve a good statue, it is better if it is made of stone.”
The film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 400 crore with Rs 75 crore being dedicated to the four songs of the film: “Jaragandi,” “Dhop,” “Naanaa Hyraanan” and “Raa Macha Macha.” Ram Charan gained global recognition with SS Rajamouli’s 2022 film RRR, which also bagged an Oscar for its song “Naatu Naatu.”
