With a massive fanbase in India, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to consider South Korean–American actor Lee Dong-seok — known by his stage names Don Lee and Ma Dong-seok — an honourary Indian star. From The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil (2019), Train to Busan (2016) and The Outlaws (2017) to Unstoppable (2018), Champion (2018), The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos (2019), The Roundup (2022) and Eternals (2021), Don Lee has made a lasting impact on audiences worldwide. Now, rumours have surfaced suggesting that Lee may soon officially join Indian cinema, taking on a key role in director Prashanth Neel’s upcoming action thriller Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam, one of the most eagerly awaited films, and his latest social media post has only fuelled this speculation.
On Saturday, Lee took to Instagram stories to share a poster of Salaar: Part 2, starring Prabhas in the lead role, which immediately set off a buzz on social media, with fans speculating about Lee’s possible involvement in the film. A sequel to Neel and Prabhas’s Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023), Salaar 2 is currently one of the most anticipated films. The excitement following Lee’s post was so intense that it temporarily blocked his Instagram account due to high traffic.
Also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sriya Reddy, Bobby Simha, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu, the Salaar franchise is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner. The production house had recently unveiled a video announcing the start of Salaar 2’s journey, with a global release planned for 2026. A few days ago, Hombale Films also signed a three-film deal with Prabhas, underlining their investment and commitment to the Salaar series. Set in the fictional dystopian city-state of Khansaar, where a monarchy still prevails, Salaar revolves around the friendship between Devaratha “Deva” Raisaar, alias Salaar (Prabhas) and Vardha Raja “Vardha” Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran). Mounted on an approximate budget of Rs 200 crore, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire grossed Rs 617.75 crore worldwide, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
In her review of Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Till the violence in Prabhas-Prithviraj-starrer is comic-book and ‘Games Of Thrones’-type stylised, you can find a way to rationalise it; the trouble ratchets up when it becomes more ‘real’.”
