Actor Dino Morea will be seen playing the antagonist in upcoming Telugu film Agent. The movie, which stars Akhil Akkineni in the lead role, also features Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a pivotal role. Dino, who is working with Mammootty for the second time, says that sharing screen space with the seasoned Malayalam star brought out the best in his performance.

Agent will see Dino play the role of a dedicated spy gone rogue, who is back with an agenda. Mammootty and Dino earlier shared screen in the 2000 film Kandukondain Kandukondain, directed by Rajiv Menon.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Dino Morea said, “I have worked with Mammootty sir in Kandukondain Kandukondain and now I am working with him again. When you work with someone so senior and so fantastic at his craft, you just want to watch him. I take away so much by just watching him. When I am doing scenes with him, I always want to be on the top of my game because you are in the scene with someone who is so fantastic.”

Recalling a conversation, he had with Mammootty, Dino added, “And during one of the scenes I did with him, he said, ‘You are going to do really well. Just make sure whoever is dubbing you in this film is good. Make sure you have a great dubbing artist because you performed very well.’ These are the exciting highs when you work with someone so fantastic with their craft. Getting a little compliment makes you enjoy what you do. Any time I have worked with someone who is better than me, I take it as a challenge and prove myself. I go out of the way to make sure that I come to at least 50 per cent of what they do.”

Dino Morea’s Telugu debut comes 24 years after he made his silver screen debut with the Hindi film Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. The actor says that it was after his negative role of Muhammad Shaybani Khan in the 2021 Disney Plus Hotstar web series The Empire, that filmmakers started seeing him as an antagonist, as opposed to his positive, hero image.

“After my show The Empire released, people saw me in a completely different light. Nobody thought I could be menacing and play a negative character. So, I guess my director in south (director Surender Reddy) saw me in this new light and thought that they can cast me in this film (Agent). Ever since The Empire I am getting so many antagonist roles but I thought Agent had a brilliant script.”

Agent will hit screens on April 28.
