Right from the time it was announced that Jr NTR was returning to the big screen as a solo hero after six years with Devara Part 1, the expectations were sky high. The film also marked his reunion with his Janatha Garage director Koratala Siva. While it was expected that Devara would open big on September 27, not many anticipated the extent of the success. After opening to Rs 82.5 crore domestically, and Rs 172 crores at the global box-office, Devara continued to shine through on Saturday and Sunday, adding another Rs 78.5 crore domestically.
As per Comscore, Devara Part 1 opened at the second place at the worldwide box office, behind the Wild Robot but ahead of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Transformers One. While Devara earned $32.9 million in its opening weekend, The Wild Robot made $44 million with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ($29 million) and Transformers One ($25 million) on third and fourth place. As per the makers, the Jr NTR film has earned Rs 304 crore gross globally in its opening weekend.

On Sunday, the collections of the film in India was a shade higher than Saturday, as the film minted around Rs 40.3 crore on Day 3 of its release. The Day 2 collections were Rs 38.5 crores in the domestic market taking the global tally to a whopping Rs 243 crores. Devara already managed to beat the likes of Stree 2 to receive the second biggest opening for an Indian film in 2024. The top place is held by Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD.
Although the Day 2 and Day 3 numbers are a solid 50 percent drop from the Day 1 numbers that gave the film a Rs 82.5 crore opening, it is to be noted that Devara had special screenings from 1 am on Day 1. The increased number of shows on Day 1 resulted in the massive opening, and it is impressive that the Sunday held on strong after the Saturday showing. This is the trend the makers of Devara would hope continues on the first Monday, which is often considered the litmus test for any film. But it is clear that the film will comfortably sail past the Rs 300 crore mark globally on Day 3.
Devara has already be come the biggest success in the careers of Jr NTR (as a solo hero) and director Koratala Siva, and the stage is set for their reunion in the sequel. It is to be seen whether Devara will go the Pushpa and KGF route, and start filming the Part 2 soon, or will the makers play the waiting game and see Jr NTR finish his other commitments, including Hrithik Roshan-Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 and Prashanth Neel’s NTR31 is the big question.
Backed by NTR Arts and Yuvasudha Arts, Devara, with music by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Ratnavelu, is set to have a breakfree two week run at the box-office, and it is clear that the rampage will continue without a glitch. The next big release is Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan on October 10.
