After suffering a massive setback in 2023 with the failure of Gandeevadhari Arjuna, Telugu actor Varun Tej is gearing up to make a comeback with his much-anticipated action thriller Operation Valentine. Helmed by Shakti Pratap Singh Hada, the movie, also featuring Manushi Chhillar, is scheduled for release on March 1.
The recent pre-release event of the film was a star-studded affair, with Varun’s uncle, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi, and his father, actor-producer Nagendra Babu, among others in attendance. Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi’s statement about his nephew has become the talk of the town as he, during the event, expressed “anger” at Varun for keeping his relationship with now-wife Lavanya Tripathi a secret from the megastar.
Pointing out that people always look forward to “Chiru leaks”, a name given by fans for the megastar’s tendency to leak movie titles, plotlines etc., the event’s anchor asked Chiranjeevi why he never leaked Varun and Lavanya’s love story to the public.
“Varun tells me everything, but he hid this from me. He didn’t even give me a hint. He always says he’s inspired by me, but I wish he was inspired enough to tell me he’s dating Lavanya. He often tells me things he doesn’t tell his father too. So, I’m still angry with him,” Hindustan Times quoted Chiranjeevi as saying. “He (Chiranjeevi) is still the first person I told. I couldn’t previously because I respect (him) and was scared,” Varun replied with a warm smile.
The megastar also praised his nephew for never choosing the same kind of roles he did. “Because of the atmosphere he has observed at home since childhood, Varun could never think of anything but being an actor. I have great regard for the film industry. While he followed in my footsteps, I appreciate the roles he picks. He has been attempting such different subjects every time, setting himself apart. I think Operation Valentine is the first film in Telugu on this subject,” Chiranjeevi said.
Varun Tej and Lavanya Tripathi tied the knot on November 1, 2023, at the Borgo San Felice Hotel in Tuscany, Italy. The wedding was attended by close friends and family members, including his paternal uncles Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan, and cousins Allu Arjun and Ram Charan, among others.
Bankrolled by Sony Pictures and Sandeep Mudda, the Varun Tej and Manushi Chhillar-starrer Operation Valentine revolves around a group of Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots. In the film, Varun plays a rogue pilot who seems to be suffering from PTSD from an accident.
