Ten years ago… on July 10, 2015, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning, was released across the world, and it truly became the beginning of a phenomenon that continues to change the landscape of Indian cinema. Baahubali, which changed the lives of everyone even remotely involved in the film, is set to turn 10 in a couple of months, and the makers are planning to join a trend that has been spreading like wildfire across the country.
Baahubali is expected to join the re-release trend, and hit the screens on the tenth-year anniversary of the film. Even though there has been no official confirmation from the makers, Shobu Yarlagadda, who backed the film under the Arka Media Works banner, has hinted at the film’s re-release.
In response to a netizen sharing a video snippet from Baahubali 2, and asking Shobu about the possibility of a re-release, the producer said, “What do you all think? Should we re-release Baahubali this year?” The post went viral with many netizens amplifying their opinions on the same. Interestingly, he also reposted a netizen’s post that translates to, “Kindly re-release Baahubali on its tenth-year anniversary this July. We will ensure Baahubali makes Rs 100 crores, making it the record for a re-released film.”
Considering how the re-release trend has taken Indian cinema by storm with films like Sanam Teri Kasam, Tumbbad, and Laila Majnu making quite the splash, and all of them making exponentially more money during their re-release when compared to the original run, it won’t come as a surprise if a crowd favourite like Baahubali brings in the numbers. However, it is to be noted that the re-release fad hasn’t really made much of an impact with already celebrated films, but seems to be favouring the ones that had a disappointing run only to become a ‘cult classic’ for audiences who watched it on television or OTT.

But Baahubali is primed to break this trend, and create new records for hugely appreciated blockbusters coming back to the big screen, simply because this was the first of its kind. And who wouldn’t want to see the spectacle involving the likes of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Ramya Krishnan, unfold on the biggest screens… once again.
