In many ways, Pushpa 2: The Rule will go down in history as one of the most seminal stories of Indian cinema in the past decade. The Telugu film, directed by Sukumar, and headlined by Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, hit the screens on December 5, and went on to collect over Rs 1800 crore at the global box-office, and replaced Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, as the most successful Indian film in the country, and is just a couple of hundred crores shy of Dangal, which is at the top spot in the global rankings. Now, it has been announced that the movie, after its eight-week theatrical run, is set to find a new home in Netflix.
The streamer announced that the ‘reloaded’ version of Pushpa 2, with the additional 23 minutes of footage, would stream on Netflix. Sharing a photo of Pushpa during the jathra sequence, Netflix wrote, “The man. The myth. The brAAnd. Pushpa’s rule is about to begin! Watch Pushpa 2- Reloaded Version with 23 minutes of extra footage on Netflix, coming soon in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam & Kannada!”
While the streamer didn’t officially share the premiere date, it has been reported that Pushpa 2 would rule the OTT space from January 30. The film would be available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Interestingly, there has been no update on when the Hindi version would begin streaming.
Apart from breaking multiple records, Pushpa 2 also faced its fair share of controversies, which began with the death of a woman, and grave injuries to her son following a stampede during the premiere of the Sukumar film. Then, there was Allu Arjun’s arrest in the case, and then weeks later, there were IT raids in the offices and residences of the people behind Mythri Movie Makers, who backed the popular franchise.
Nevertheless, the film continues to be a box-office juggernaut like no other, and even 50 days after its release, finds itself to be the preferred choice of many. Even though there have been no official announcement about what’s in store for Allu Arjun and Sukumar, it is speculated that the actor would collaborate with his Ala Vaikunthapurramulo director Trivikram Srinivas next, and the filmmaker would work with his Rangasthalam hero Ram Charan in his upcoming film.
