When it’s Allu Arjun we’re talking about, is a simple birthday wish enough to let him know how thankful we are to have him in our lives? Well, definitely not. How about the opportunity for an outing with one of the most successful directors in contemporary Indian cinema? That sounds perfect, right? And that’s exactly what Sun Pictures gifted the “Icon Star” — a collaboration with renowned filmmaker Atlee Kumar for a “landmark cinematic event”.

On the occasion of Arjun’s 43rd birthday on Tuesday, Sun Pictures officially announced the project, marking the first collaboration between the actor and the director. In a 154-second announcement video, the production company also offered a sneak peek into the highly ambitious project’s world. While the clip begins by showing Arjun and Atlee meeting Sun Pictures’ head, Kalanithi Maran, it then cuts to show them in Los Angeles, the heart of Hollywood.

There, they first visit the headquarters of Lola Visual Effects, known for their work on Avengers: Endgame, It Chapter Two, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and WandaVision, among others. Subsequently, they also meet the technicians at Spectral Motion, Inc., which specialises in cinematic creature effects, prosthetic makeup, state-of-the-art animatronics, dynamic costumes and action props. The duo’s journey doesn’t end there, as they visit a couple more big studios that help take the visual experience to the next level.

The high-concept, VFX-driven spectacle will go on floors this month.

As the video progresses, we see the two inspecting various props these firms had previously created for different movies, particularly the ones with a monstrous edge. Meanwhile, we even see the actor checking out the Black Panther helmet. Going forward, all the technicians attest to one thing: the story is unlike anything they have ever heard before, let alone attempted. The makers conclude the video by affirming that mass will meet magic in the project, wherein imagination and obsession blend.

According to Variety, the high-concept, VFX-driven spectacle will go on floors this month. “This is the film I have always dreamed of making and it’s taken years of quiet work to shape the screenplay into something I truly believe in. To now bring it to life with the Icon Star Allu Arjun Sir, under the visionary leadership of Kalanithi Maran Sir at Sun Pictures, is nothing short of a dream come true. The film is mass at its core and magical in its storytelling, crafted to move and entertain audiences worldwide,” Atlee, known for helming movies such as Jawan (2023), Bigil (2019) and Mersal (2017), said in a statement.

As Arjun and Atlee team up for a groundbreaking collaboration, expectations are already through the roof. And for the project, as the man, the myth, the legend Shah Rukh Khan once put it, “Ready?”
