Actress Disha Vakani, who played the iconic role of Dayaben Gada on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, left a huge void on the show when she left it eight years ago. Until now, the show’s producer, Asit Kumar Modi, has not been able to cast a suitable replacement for the actress. While Disha is long gone from the show, she was recently seen celebrating Raksha Bandhan with Asit Modi. The producer shared a video of the same on social media. Their video went viral soon, and many fans demanded the OG Dayaben to get back on the show soon.
Reacting to the video, a fan wrote, “Missing her presence in new episodes and seeing her after a long time.” Another fan said, “Daya bhabhi come soon sabhi ko aap intezaar hai.” A third fan wrote, “She looks so sweet as always. Vapis ane ke liye bola ki nahi.. just tell her so many people miss her a lot.” Earlier in several interviews and events, Asit Modi has often called Disha Vakani his sister and expressed his sincere wish to have her back on the show.
During the 17-year celebration of the show also Asit Modi had said that it is very difficult to cast a new Dayaben because of the benchmark Disha has set. He had said, “Of course, Dayaben not being there is a huge challenge. Disha set a benchmark for that character with the way she has performed. Finding someone like her is very difficult. I don’t know what is God’s will, but I hope to find someone soon and bring Dayaben back. I sincerely wish for Disha to return, but due to personal reasons, she cannot. I have been telling the audience time and again that we will bring Daya, but issues keep arising. Finding a good replacement is also tough because a very strong image of hers is etched in people’s minds. But I shall soon overcome this challenge with your love and support.”
Disha Vakani had quit the show in 2017 when she was about to deliver her first child. After that, Disha went on to become a mother for the second time and has not returned to the show since.
