Shark Tank India has had four seasons so far and while many entrepreneurs have received funding for their business ventures through the show, and have made huge successes of their business, one pitcher found something that he wasn’t looking for. Mohit Tyagi, who pitched his ed-tech platform Competishun in the third season of the show, became the inspiration for a SonyLIV series 13th. In a new promo, Mohit was seen with the Shark Tank India judges as he recounted his journey.
Mohit appeared on the show in 2024 as he and his partners wanted to raise Rs 2 crore, in exchange for 1 percent equity of their company, valued at Rs 200 crore. At the time, their company’s revenue was around Rs 10.25 crore, which raised a huge question mark over the company’s valuation. The pitch didn’t go as planned and the sharks on the panel – Vineeta Singh, Peyush Bansal, Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta and Azhar Iqubal – refused to invest in the company.
Mohit and his co-founders walked away empty handed from the stage but after the episode aired, his former student Abhishek Dhandharia felt inspired to tell his story to the rest of the world. In the new promo, the showrunner and producer of 13th, Abhishek said, “When this episode aired, I saw Mohit and I remembered that I had studied under him in my Kota days. I reached out to him and I thought that his story should reach the world.” Mohit added, “When I came here the last time, I could not get the deal, but I did get a lot of experience.”
As the sharks heard about it, Namita Thapar said, “It’s a great story and I feel many parents and students will relate to this.” Anupam Mittal added, “We thought only deals were made here, now there are shows being made. Well done!” Kunal Bahl added, “What a comeback! You couldn’t find a deal, but you found a show.”
