Sometimes healing can come from unexpected places, including belly buttons. A recent episode of Shark Tank India featured a founder duo who presented their health and wellness brand to the sharks, but the narrative took a detour when Anupam Mittal interjected with his strange query, and share a childhood memory no one was prepared for.

During the episode, Vaibhav Shah and Swati Vakharia from Gujarat came pitched their brand ‘Nabhi Sutra’, which focuses on several types of Ayurvedic oils for skin care, health care and digestion. The mere mention of belly button made the sharks laugh, as they got immediate flashbacks of an infamous season one pitch.

This was the second time a belly button related product was pitched on the show, after the viral season one contestant who had invented a device that he said could help one get a deep and round belly button.

After hearing their pitch, Anupam Mittal was the first shark to voice a query. “This oil, does it go inside through belly button? Because it is sealed, so what’s the entry point?” The shark then recalled how is grandmother would apply heeng (Asafoetida) to his belly button when he used to have stomach worms.

Vineeta Singh then joked that heeng is actually used for gas, which could have been the reason why his grandmother was applying it on Anupam, but he was too shy to confess it on TV. Aman Gupta joked that Anupam has a gas problem, and said, “Woh hume pata lag jaata hai,” as everyone laughed, and Namita Thapar added, “I can vouch for that! Wohi main bolu kaha se ye durgandh aati hai roz.

“It is even worse,” Anupam said before adding, “Bum mein khujli hoti thi!” Anupam then asked the founders if they had ever had problems of stomach worms, prompting Aman Gupta to throw his hands in the air and request the pitchers not to answer that query.

Though charmed by their idea, pitch and personality, the sharks turned down their ask of Rs 60 lakhs against three percent equity, citing that they should stay focused on their strength and not diversify, and focus on keeping the prices of their products affordable. “It is also a very small market, so I am out. But good job and stay in touch,” Aman Gupta said as his closing remarks.
