Anupam Mittal says ‘6 lakh aur lele’ as Shark Tank India pitcher haggles over valuation, Aman Gupta reacts: ‘Paagal kar rakha hai’

Shark Tank India 4: Aman Gupta and Anupam Mittal were excited to invest in an entrepreneur's toy business, after observing his enthusiasm for his own products.

An entrepreneur from Gujarat pitched his science-based toy business on the latest episode of Shark Tank India, which is currently airing its fourth season. The entrepreneur, Naitik, invited his teenage daughter to demonstrate his products to the panel of ‘sharks’. They were all very impressed with her, and seemed to enjoy playing with the slime-based toys that Naitik had created. Naitik said that he studied science, and was always interested in creating innovative products. Aman Gupta and Anupam Mittal couldn’t help but admire his enthusiasm when he described his experiments at home.

Naitik said that he wants to create fake blood and an exploding gun next. He asked for Rs 60 lakh in exchange of 4% equity, valuing his business, Fundoo Labs, at Rs 15 crore. He told the ‘sharks’ that he grew the business from Rs 5 lakh a year to Rs 3 crore. Next year, he said, he is certain that he will hit the Rs 10 crore mark in revenue. Aman said that he has no doubt over this.

Namita Thapar said that she used to bring slime over from the US for her kids, while both Aman and Anupam remarked about their own kids’ love for such toys. Namita backed out of the deal, however. Vineeta Singh said that she felt it was too early for Naitik to raise funding, and backed out of the deal as well. Peyush Bansal advised Naitik to work on his formulations, and said that he would be willing to offer him help in the manufacturing department, but wouldn’t want to invest as yet.

Aman was the first ‘shark’ to make an offer. He offered Naitik Rs 60 lakh for 10% equity, but Anupam joined in as well. Anupam offered the founder the same deal, but for 8% equity. Aman rolled his eyes and said sarcastically, “Paagal kar rakha hai (He drives me mad).” Naitik was determined to fight for valuation, and he told Anupam and Aman that he wants to raise more capital in the coming years. He countered by asking them to raise the valuation to at least Rs 10 crore. Anupam and Aman joined hands, but reduced the valuation to Rs 7 crore.

But Naitik stuck to his guns. He presented them with his ‘final offer’, and insisted that they don’t reduce his valuation. Anupam said, “Tu ek kaam kar, tu Rs 6 lakh aur lele, valuation will be Rs 10 crore.” But Naitik sharply responded, “No, it’ll be Rs 9.4 crore, but it’s okay.” He accepted the terms, and both Anupam and Aman asked for his daughter to return and celebrate with him.
