Festivals are meant to be spent with the family and what better way to do that than binge-watching some of the best shows that can be found online. Spending the day chilling with family while gorging on some great food sounds like the perfect day and with Diwali, you have all the more reason to stick together and indulge in everyone’s favourites. Like in every family, there are shows that are loved by the kids and then there are some that are loved by teenagers but then there are some that can be enjoyed with the entire family and we all know Diwali is the perfect time to watch these ones.
With Netflix, one can play an episode of a show and just sit back and relax and spend the entire day just binge-watching. Here are 10 shows that you can binge-watch on Netflix, this Diwali.
1. Stranger Things
With the second season coming up in less than a month, this is the perfect time to binge the first season. In case you haven’t seen it yet, catch up with the show that had the entire world following a group of kids who plans to defeat the monster from the upside-down. Even if you have seen the show before, no time like right now to run through the first season so you can completely be in tune when the second season drops.
2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
This cop comedy is one of the best comedy shows right now. Starring Andy Samberg in the lead, this group of NYPD detectives go around solving crimes but with a lot of humour. With four seasons of the show on Netflix, you will not stop binge-watching this until you’re all done.
3. Gilmore Girls
Diwali time is family time and no other show does family better than Gilmore Girls. Loyal fans of the show have seen each episode umpteen times but if you’ve never watched an episode, get ready for a family drama that is equal parts funny as it is emotional. The show ran for seven years, from 2000-2007, and was then revised for four fresh episodes by Netflix last year. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, has four episodes which are more like feature films. Lorelai and Rory’s life will make you laugh and cry and there’s no way one can’t get attached to this one.
4. Riverdale
Netflix updates this show on a weekly basis so you can be completely caught up with the happenings of the town of Riverdale. Inspired by the characters from Archie Comics, Riverdale’s first season came out earlier this year. The second season has just started so this would be the perfect time for anyone to catch up on whatever they have missed uptil now.
5. That 70s Show
The 90s kids grew up on this show about a bunch of teenagers from Wisconsin who spend all their time in Eric Forman’s basement. The show is really special for millennials as it takes them down the nostalgia road. ‘That 70s Show’ is one of the rare gems that can always be revisited and a festival holiday is as good a reason as any to rewatch episodes of the show with your siblings.
6. Chef’s Table
Gorging on food is mandatory on Diwali and what better way to do the same while watching mini-documentaries on some of the best chefs in the world. Their food style, philosophy and their best dishes being prepared, ‘Chef’s Table’ is a delight for every food lover. Watch it with your family and you’ll spend all day bingeing on food and this show as well.
7. A Series of Unfortunate Events
This dark comedy drama is just as interesting for kids as it is for adults and that qualifies it perfectly for a family binge watch session. Based on the book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, this show stars Neil Patrick Harris in the lead role. The eight episodes are whimsical but logical, dark but also funny and that makes this show a compelling watch.
8. Gossip Girl
The eventful lives of Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf are too fancy for folks like us but there’s no harm in vicariously living through them. The teenagers here travel in the fanciest cars and wear the most expensive clothes and why not? After all, they think of themselves to be New York royalty. Gossip Girl is perfect for teenagers but even if you’re a grown up, there’s no harm in self-indulgence.
9. Mindhunter
This new Netflix series is set in 1977 when a branch of FBI, Behavioral Science Unit, started studying violent crimes that appeared in a pattern in order to lessen the occurrence of these events in the future. The 10 episodes of the series deal with a larger story arc as well as individual cases but the progression of the character’s stories will manage to keep you hooked.
10. Designated Survivor
Starring Kiefer Sutherland in the lead role, this show’s premise is about a man who gets the most powerful position in the world, President of the United States, after the President and everyone in the line of succession is killed during the State of the Union. It is now upto Tom Kirkman (Sutherland) to take charge of the country and build it back up again. the show is presently in its second season and if you enjoy political dramas, you must give this one a try.
