Although the Indian mini-screen scene boasts many talents and stars, comedian Bharti Singh asserts that Kapil Sharma is in a league of his own. During a recent conversation, she spoke at length about Kapil, with whom she has collaborated for many years now. Heaping praise on him, Bharti shared that Kapil is not just a fantastic artiste but an even greater human being and friend, who always looks out for his friends.
During an appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, she was asked about Kapil, and she stated that he plays a significant role in her life. When Raj pointed out that he’s an “icon”, she agreed without missing a beat. “People now say that a specific time has come for him because he said ‘this and that’. But I have seen that man’s hard work. He sits alone in a room diligently with the file carrying details about the guest, and prepares. That man doesn’t need a writer. He only needs one person for typing,” she revealed.
Mentioning that he has always supported her, Bharti Singh shared that Kapil has also channelled enough opportunities her way. “Whenever something comes up, I ask him, “Bhai, shall I do this?’ And he will be like, ‘Yes, it’s very good. Do it like this.’ He always shares (wisdom). He will never talk you down,” she added. While they both were part of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3 and Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars as contestants, Bharti also worked for a long time in The Kapil Sharma Show.
Despite being a veteran with years of experience, Bharti said that Kapil still approaches each new gig as his first and is hence on his toes. However, she maintained that his brilliance lies in his ability to mask his tension well. “Although he is different on stage, backstage, it’s the same situation as mine: sweating profusely. Even though that man has done so many shows, he still sweats profusely backstage. But once the time comes, he enters the stage with full energy,” she said.
When asked what Kapil’s best quality was, Bharti stated that it’s his simplicity. “He is very down-to-earth. I don’t know how he appears to you guys when he comes on stage or when you see him on TV. But I have known him personally and he is very down-to-earth. He listens to people and appreciate them so much. He is not fake,” she said, adding that she celebrates almost all major festivals such as Diwali, Karva Chauth, and Raksha Bandhan at Kapil’s house with his family. She also mentioned that he loves music and singing as much as he loves comedy.
