The auditions for Indian Idol 16 kicked off recently. And at the very beginning of this new season, the viewers will get to witness an emotional and iconic moment as judges Shreya Ghoshal and Vishal Dadlani pay a tribute to the late Zubeen Garg. One of the most influential musical artists from Assam, Zubeen died in a swimming-related accident Singapore. During the auditions, when an Assam-based contestant came on stage, Vishal remembered Zubeen and said an artist like him can never be born in India again.
In one of the recently released promos, Vishal said, “Assam is one of the most musical places… You come from the place where Zubeen Garg was born and brought up. He was one of the biggest stars born in India, as an Assamese, losing Zubeen is not a small thing. He was one of the greatest of all time.” Later on, Sherya Ghoshal went on to sing an Assamese song as a tribute to Zubeen Garg. Vishal also sang ‘Jaane kya chahe mann bawra’, paying a tribute to the late Zubeen Garg.

Zubeen Garg was considered one of the most influential music artists from Assam. He even directed and acted in a few movies and music videos. On 19th September 2025, the singer was in Singapore on a yacht outing when he fell unconscious while swimming. Zubeen was declared dead when he was taken to the hospital. The police are currently investigating details of his death.
Zubeen wrote and composed nearly 38,000 songs in 40 different languages, played dozens of instruments, and directed and acted in movies and videos, making him a phenomenon in Assam.
