YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, who recently appeared on Shark Tank India to pitch his protein powder business Beast Life, shared a new vlog in which he attempted to make his own business deals. One of the sticking points during his Shark Tank pitch was his multiple business interests; the ‘sharks’ felt that he wasn’t committed enough to Beast Life, and felt that he was on the show only to promote the brand. During the pitch, Gaurav had spoken about his dairy brand, Rozier, but said that he doesn’t want to discuss it in detail.
In his latest vlog, he documented his journey across several villages in Rajasthan, as he attempted to on-board farmers to source milk from them. The title that he gave his vlog seemed to be a dig at Shark Tank. The video was titled, “Inke gao mein deal pakki ho gayi.” Introducing his mission, he said, “You must be wondering why we’re here. Through Rozier, we work with farmers who own desi cows. But there are lots of farmers in our country who aren’t getting accurate value for the milk produced by their desi cows. They’re migrating to other kinds of cows, or buffalo. We’ve committed to creating a community of farmers and educating them about desi cows. The good thing is that our consumers understand the value of desi cows, and we want to encourage this.”
Gaurav continued, “By meeting farmers, we wanted to understand what their pain points are. We wanted to understand why the desi cow population in our country is dwindling. We want to know what we can do for them to encourage them to breed desi cows… Our villages won’t develop only by creating roads, they’ll develop by investing in our farmers.” Gaurav, who goes by the name Flying Beast on YouTube, has over 9 million subscribers.
On Shark Tank India, Gaurav asked for Rs 1 crore in exchange of 1% equity, but got a talking to from Anupam Mittal, who accused him of using the platform for publicity. “When I started, I was a lot like you. I thought of myself as a star, but when you think of yourself as a star, you think you’re infallible. you can’t allocate time in startups, you have to be there all the time… It’s not that I don’t trust you, but I trust in Indian entrepreneurship, and they have so much energy, so much passion, they won’t let a part-timer like you win. That’s the reason I’m out,” he said.
