Dipika Kakar undergoes 14-hour liver tumour surgery; husband Shoaib Ibrahim shares health update: ‘She’s in some pain, but…’

Days after revealing that she has been diagnosed with a tumour in the liver, actor Dipika Kakar underwent surgery on Tuesday. According to her husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, the procedure, for which she was in the operation theatre for 14 hours, “went well”, and she is recovering now. However, Dipika is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Late last month, the actor had shared on social media that the “tennis ball-sized tumour” was detected to be cancerous at the second stage.

Taking to his Instagram stories on Wednesday, Shoaib wrote, “Hi everyone, sorry I couldn’t update you last night; it was a long surgery. She was in the operation theatre (OT) for 14 hours. But Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Dipi is currently in the ICU. She’s in some pain, but she’s stable and doing okay. Thank you all dil se (from the heart) for your love, prayers, and support. It truly means a lot. I will update you all once she’s out of the ICU.” He ended the note by requesting their fans to keep her in their prayers.

Explaining her condition to her fans, Dipika shared a note on social media on May 27, revealing that the tumour was discovered when it had already reached stage two malignancy. “As you all are aware, the last few weeks have been quite difficult for us. Walking into the hospital for a pain in the upper area of my stomach and then finding out it’s a tennis ball-sized tumour in the liver. And then finding out that the tumour is second-stage malignant (cancerous). It has been one of the most difficult times we have seen and experienced! I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger, Inshallah! With my entire family by my side and all the love and prayers pouring in from all of you, I will sail through this too,” she wrote.

Known for her performances in soap operas like Sasural Simar Ka and Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, Dipika has also participated in reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8, Nach Baliye 8 and Celebrity MasterChef. She had also emerged as the winner in the Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss Season 12. After parting ways with her first husband, Dipika Kakar tied the knot with her Sasural Simar Ka co-star Shoaib Ibrahim in 2018. They have a son, Ruhaan, together.
