“It’s so overt. It’s covert.” Yes, we know Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock never said these telling words but the second trailer for BBC’s Sherlock is a much-awaited piece to its fourth instalment puzzle. The 47-second video was published by the show’s official YouTube channel on December 10 and it already has over 759,235 views.
The screen is proverbially set on fire in the second shot where we see a huge cottage go up in flames. So much so that there’s an eerie sighting of the Superman logo as the mansion appears to burn into ashes. Does this mean Sherlock will exorcise his demons in the new season? Or will he feel the heat?
Mycroft’s (Sherlock’s brother) teasing voice haunts us from the very outset with: “The roads we walk on have demons beneath.” The not-so-cryptic elder Holmes promises us that the new season will be back with a bang on January 1, 2017.
Sherlock is face-to-face (although they don’t appear in the same frame much to our dismay) with his new rival Culverton Smith. The tagline for the trailer goes, “It is not a game anymore.”
Toby Jones, the nouveau villain this season, appears every bit sinister and creepy. For those who might have a difficult time putting a finger on who Jones is, he’s the head of Hydra from Captain America franchise.
While Cumberbatch looks yummy in that stubble, the fear for the life of his loved ones – Dr Watson, Mrs Hudson, Molly and Mary – flashes in his eyes. Will the world’s most inimitable “Consulting Detective” satiate the appetite of the voracious fan? Again?
The trailer is dark, it’s so complete in its incompleteness. Hardcore Sherlock fans are devastated yet going bonkers and why not? It does exactly what a trailer should do… leaves you asking for more.
