The Amitabh Bachchan-hosted quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC 16) has witnessed several heartwarming stories over the years. However, fans were eagerly waiting for the show’s latest season to deliver the sort of highs of previous seasons. Their patience paid off this week. On Tuesday, a 22-year-old UPSC aspirant from Jammu and Kashmir, Chander Prakash, became the season’s first ‘crorepati’. While he failed to crack the jackpot Rs 7 crore question, Chander won Rs 1 crore on the show. Along with a hug from Amitabh Bachchan, Chander also got a car.
In a video released by Sony TV, Big B is seen exclaiming, ‘ek crore!’ after Chander correctly answered the question. He also announced that Chander won a car, after which the contestant went on to attempt the Rs 7 crore question.
Chander opened up about the major health obstacles that he has faced in his life. He revealed that he continues to undergo surgeries because of a heart condition. Commending Chandan’s spirit, Amitabh Bachchan shared an anecdote about his father, the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and said, “Mere babu ji ne kaha – beta, jab tak jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai (My father once told me, you struggle till the day you die).”
The Rs 1 crore question was, “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’? The options were: A) Somalia, B) Oman, C) Tanzania, and D) Brunei.” Opting for the double dip lifeline, Chander gave the correct answer as Tanzania. Later, the Rs 7 crore question that was asked was, “Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?” Chander quit the show, but correctly guessed the answer later.
Congratulating Chander on winning Rs 50 lakh which was his life’s first-ever income, Big B also said, “Your dedication has brought you here, and persistence, as they say, is sometimes the best quality. You’ve held onto it, and that’s why you stand at this significant juncture.”
On the film front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD, which emerged as the highest-grossing hit of his career.
