Vikram-Pa Ranjith’s Thangalaan postponed, see new poster

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan is another addition to the growing number of period films in Tamil. It is set in the pre-independence era of Kolar Gold Mines. The trailer suggests that it is about the fight between the tribals living in the area and foreign forces who are after the mines.

Pa Ranjith struck gold with his previous period film, Sarpetta Parambarai, which unfortunately didn’t have a theatrical release. His next film, Natchathirangal Nagargirathu, a small-budget socio-political drama, opened to a decent response. He will return to the big screen with Thangalaan, which is also an important film in Vikram’s career as the actor’s last much-anticipated movie, Cobra, bit the dust.

In addition to Vikram, Thangalaan also stars Parvathy, Malavika Mohanan, and Pasupathy in important roles. GV Prakash Kumar is composing the music for the film, which has cinematography by A. Kishor Kumar.

Other than Thangalaan, Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram, directed by Gautam Menon, has been in the pipeline for years now. Despite the efforts of the director, the film is not able to see the light of day.
