Despite being hailed as two of the biggest icons the Tamil industry has ever seen and having created a cinematic spectacle the one time they joined forces, it took Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam 36 years after Nayakan to team up once more. Tentatively titled KH 234, the film boasts a powerful technical crew, including AR Rahman for music, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Ravi K Chandran for cinematography, and the stunt duo Anbu and Arivu, collectively known as AnbAriv.
Meanwhile, the stuntmaster twins Anbu and Arivu, popularly known as AnbAriv, recently stated that KH 234 will be a pure action film, elevating the spirits of cinema enthusiasts. “It will be of Hollywood standard,” they mentioned during a chat with The Hindu.
This marks their second collaboration with Kamal, following their work in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action saga Vikram. AnbAriv expressed their enthusiasm for the project, acknowledging, “While we were excited, we know that it is a big responsibility to deliver the goods. We started working on the action possibilities the minute we got the call.”
“As action choreographers, our job is not just to stage the sequence. We read the entire script and suggest places where the ‘heat’ is missing. We sometimes even suggest characters and dialogues in the lead-up to the fight. Ten years ago, we would listen to just a basic storyline and work on action scenes,” they recalled.
“Today, we have to get involved with the lead to the action, which basically refers to why the hero is fighting at that point in time in the film. Only then can we satisfy audiences, giving them an impression that if they were the protagonist, they would do the same as well,” the duo added.
Meanwhile, ahead of the official announcement of the project’s title, production company Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) released a first look poster of the upcoming Mani Ratnam film. The poster showcases Kamal’s partially hidden face, with only his eyes visible, emanating a strong sense of fearlessness.
Building up the excitement and expectation surrounding the project, RKFI additionally announced that Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan is joining KH 234.
Taking to social media to make the announcement, he said: “His energy and fervour light up the screens! It is always OKK to work with @dqsalmaan 😃 Happy to have you aboard #KH234 ✨,” the production company noted on social media.
