Noted Tamil film producer Dilli Babu passed away in the early hours of Monday in Chennai. The 50-year-old backed notable films like Ratsasan, Oh My Kadavule and Maragadha Naanayam under his Axess Film Factory banner.
A producer with a strong script sense, Dilli Babu was known for backing novel concepts with debut filmmakers or relatively new directors. Since he made his debut production venture in 2015 with Urumeen made by debut director Shakthivel, Dilli provided the platform for debutant filmmakers like ARK Saravan (Maragadha Naanayam), Mu Maran (Iravukku Aayiram Kangal), Ashwath Marimuthu (Oh My Kadavule), Sathish Selvakumar (Bachelor), M Sakthivel (Miral) and PV Shankar (Kalvan). He also backed the super successful Ratsasan, which was the sophomore film of director Ramkumar.
Here are a few reactions:
The loss has come as a shock to many in the film industry, and many are ruing the absence of a filmmaker who understood the importance of backing young and promising talent in a world that is increasingly getting tougher for newcomers to break into.
