The who’s who of Tamil cinema including ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth and ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan attended Kalaingar 100, the centenary celebration of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Conducted by Tamil Film Producers Council, the event was held at Chennai Race Course. Other than Rajinikanth and Kamal, many other stars including Dhanush, Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, and Vadiuvelu participated in the event.
Reflecting the Dravidian ideology, Kamal was dressed up in full black. His black shirt and black veshti with a golden border looked elegant and unique at the same time. On the other hand, Rajinikanth kept things simple and was seen in an all-white costume.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan both were on good terms with Kalaingar and have watched many films together with the late political leader. Speaking at the event, Rajinikanth heaped praise on Kalaingar saying that if he hadn’t moved to politics from cinema, he would have made many more Sivajis and MG Ramachandrans.
On the other hand, Kamal Haasan said that he will always be grateful for the sobriquet ‘Kalainyani’ Kalaingar gave him. “I learned to use all the opportunities that came my way seeing him, and I have been following it till now,” he said. Kamal stood in the corner of the stage while talking, and said that it was because he wouldn’t take the center stage where Kalaingar is present.
