Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, who was hospitalised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, due to health issues, has been discharged and is now back home. He was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai due to dehydration. According to his family, he underwent a series of routine tests before being discharged.
Upon hearing the news, Chief Minister MK Stalin reached out to the doctors treating him to check on his condition. Later, he reassured fans on social media that the music legend was doing well. “As soon as I heard the news that Isaipuyal AR Rahman had been admitted to the hospital due to ill health, I contacted the doctors and inquired about his health. They said he is fine and will be back home soon,” Stalin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Confirming his hospitalisation, AR Rahman’s sister Fathima Shekhar said in a voice note shared with the media: “He experienced slight discomfort and it was later determined that it was caused by dehydration. He has been travelling extensively. He is currently receiving drips (IV fluids) and is doing fine.”
Taking to his Instagram stories, his son AR Ameen wrote: “To all our dear fans, family, and well-wishers, I sincerely thank you for your love, prayers, and support. My father felt a bit weak due to dehydration hence we went ahead and did some routine tests, but I’m happy to share that he is doing well now. Your kind words and blessings mean a lot to us. We truly appreciate your concern and continued support. Much love and gratitude to you all!”
One of the most successful and influential composers in Indian cinema, AR Rahman has won numerous prestigious accolades, including two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe and six National Film Awards, besides the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.
In November 2024, AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. In a joint statement, they revealed that the decision followed “significant emotional strain in their relationship.” Rahman and Banu, who tied the knot in 1995, are parents to their daughters Khatija and Raheema, as well as son Ameen.
