In a hearing on Friday, the Madras High Court dismissed a petition against Vijay’s upcoming release, saying that there was no illegality in using the title Mersal. Earlier, the court had ordered an interim ban after the petition was filed.
Mersal, one of Kollywood’s much awaited releases, is also likely to hit the screens during Diwali. With an ongoing strike Film Producers’ strike against the Local Body Entertainment Tax, fans are slightly worried if the movie will release on schedule for Diwali. The decision on the ongoing tax debate could positively affect the film’s chances at a good box office profit.
Touted to Vijay’s biggest release yet, the extravagant project has been made with a massive budget and a stellar star cast. Helmed by Atlee, Mersal also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and SJ Suryah. The 100th film to be produced by Sri Thenandal Films, Mersal has music by the ‘Mozart of Madras’ AR Rahman.
