On one hand, Vijay’s Leo is at the receiving end of severe criticism from audiences for not meeting the expectations. However, the actor’s ardent fans are on cloud nine as the film seems to have catered to their taste. This is reflected at the box office as the film has earned more than in a matter of four days. Leo’s worldwide box office collection has outperformed Martin Scorsese’s Killers of The Flower Moon, which has Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role.
According to a report published by Variety, the global collection of Leo is more than DiCaprio’s period film. The site reported that while the Tamil film’s worldwide cumulative box office collection is about $48.5 million (Rs 400 crore), the Hollywood film, minted only $44 million (Rs 365 crore) till now.
There are many conflicting reports about Leo’s box office collection. While Variety and film’s makers have reported that the film has earned Rs 400 crore (cumulative), according to Sacnilk, Leo has so far only collected Rs 363 crore at the worldwide box office in a matter of four days. The website also predicted that the film will cross Rs 400 crore at the box office. It is currently the biggest opener and the biggest worldwide grosser for Vijay. Among the highest Tamil box office hits, the film is trailing behind 2.0, Jailer, Ponniyin Selvan 1, and Vikram.
However, all the reports indicate that Leo has become a massive hit despite the middling reviews from the critics. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo is inspired by the American film A History of Violence. The film follows a cafe owner, who seems to have a bloody past. Also starring Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Menon, Arjun, and Mansoor Ali Khan, Leo has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film is confirmed to be part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe, which now comprises three films–Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.
