After an impressive opening, Suriya and Bobby Deol’s fantasy action drama Kanguva has seen a sharp decline at the box office. After opening with over Rs 24 crore at the box office, the film’s collection saw a sharp decline and on the fifth day, Kanguva could only make around Rs 3.15 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings its domestic total to Rs 56.75 crore.
The film opened strongly on Thursday with Rs 24 crore but saw a steep 60.42 percent drop on Friday, earning Rs 9.5 crore. Over the weekend, Kanguva showed only marginal growth, with Saturday collections rising by 3 percent to Rs 9.85 crore and Sunday earnings increasing by 4 percent to Rs 10.25 crore. Monday’s significant drop adds to concerns about the film’s sustainability at the box office. At this rate, it seems unlikely that the film will reach Rs 100 crore mark.
Made on a reported budget of around Rs 350 crore, Kanguva has faced criticism for its wafer-thin script, overly loud background score, and convoluted timelines, which diluted the film’s essence. Suriya’s wife Jyothika tried to defend the film via her social media but she also pointed out the flaws of the film which included the loud background score and the first half hour that is receiving a lot of criticism.
Directed by Siva, Kanguva features Suriya in dual roles, with Bobby Deol playing the antagonist following his negative role in Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal. The ensemble cast includes Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, KS Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Mansoor Ali Khan, Ravi Raghavendra, and Karunas in pivotal roles.
