Kaantha trailer: The trailer of the Dulquer Salmaan–starrer period drama Kaantha was launched by “Rebel Star” Prabhas on Thursday. Kaantha is reportedly inspired by the life and struggles of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, widely regarded as the first superstar of Tamil cinema.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the happenings inside a film studio named Modern Studios and opens with Samuthirakani’s character, Ayya, introducing his son Chandran (played by Dulquer Salmaan) to the world of cinema. “A story decides when it has to be told. Modern Studios has agreed to make a film with you,” he tells him. Dulquer is later presented as TK Mahadevan, celebrated as the “King of Acting”, whose arrival is said to have transformed the landscape of Tamil cinema.

The trailer then highlights the superstar’s growing relationship with his co-star, played by Bhagyashri Borse. It soon shifts focus to his transformation into a power-drunk celebrity who begins to turn against his father. In one scene, the father warns him, “The fame, name and wealth that comes with cinema is corrupting you.” The film appears to explore the gradual widening of the ideological rift between father and son, as their conflicting visions for the movie they are making lead to mounting tension and turmoil on set.
