Japan teaser: Karthi plays zany thief in Raju Murugan's heist film

Actor Karthi and director Raju Murugan have joined hands for the first time for Japan, which seems to be a heist thriller.

Actor Karthi had a great time last year with three back-to-back hits in Komban, Ponniyin Selvan 1, and Sardar. This year Ponniyin Selvan 2 couldn’t live up to the success of the first part and Karthi didn’t have any release in the meantime. However, the actor seems to be returning with an intriguing film, Japan. The teaser of the movie, directed by writer-turned-filmmaker Raju Murugan, was unveiled today.

The teaser features Karthi in an eccentric look. He is seen sporting an all-golden outfit and a quirky hairstyle. The characters in the film call him Japan. He is a highly-talented thief, who has pulled off some great heist. Other than Karthi, the movie stars cinematographer-turned-actor Vijay Milton, Sunil, Anu Emmanuel, and Jithan Ramesh in important roles.

Japan has music by GV Prakash Kumar. Philomin Raj, who has edited Leo, is working on this movie as well. Cinematographer Ravi Varman is taking care of the camera work for the film, which is produced by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warriors Pictures.

Earlier, in an interview with The Indian Express, Karthi said, “If you have read Rajumuruagan’s writing like his magazine series Vattiyum Mudhalum, you would know what kind of a person he is. We saw a bit of that side in Joker. With Japan, he is in a different zone. It’s a crime thriller, and the very idea of such a genre from him was pretty exciting. I should say I forced myself into the project (laughs). We are pushing the boundaries with this one.”

Japan is releasing this Diwali.
