Rajinikanth’s Jailer is showing no signs to slow down at the box office as it eyes the Rs 300 crore mark with its worldwide gross. The film is expected to enter the club with its performance over Independence Day.
“Other stars take 3 to 4 weeks to put up a lifetime gross a big number #Superstar @rajinikanth ‘s #Jailer has crossed them in 3 to 4 days, in most of the other states and overseas markets,” wrote trade analyst Ramesh Bala on Twitter about the rapid progress of Rajinikanth-Nelson’s success combo. On Day 4, the film collected over Rs 222 crore at the worldwide box office, and it is expected to cross Rs 300 crore in a matter of a few days.
Jailer will become the second fastest Tamil film to reach Rs 300-mark, while the first position is also held by Rajinikanth with the film 2.o, which earned Rs 400 crores in four days.
Jailer was released on Thursday amid a huge fan frenzy and made an impressive collection of Rs 48.35 crore on its opening day. On Friday, the film earned Rs 25.75 crore, and on Saturday it earned Rs 35 crore, according to the trade aggregator Sacnilk. On Day 4, the film earned Rs 38 crore according to the website. The gross Indian collection of the film is estimated to be Rs 127 crore.
Nelson Dilipkumar’s last film Beast failed to become a hit and left fans wondering if he would be able to pull off a success with Jailer. Nelson has now put an end to all such doubts with the film.
Indian Express review rated the film with 3.5 stars and read, “Jailer’s story is similar to Kamal Haasan’s Vikram in a lot of ways, but this one is not too gloomy as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film. Nelson’s film doesn’t hesitate to make fun of some of the most delicate situations, because all that matters to the director is to keep you entertained.”
The film is continuing to outperform despite competition from other films like Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar. The ticket sales of the Chiranjeevi-starrer have steeply declined within the first weekend. The remake of Ajith’s Vedalam is expected to earn less than Rs 30 crore domestically in the first three days of release.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer also has Ramya Krishnan, Priyanka Mohan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu and Vasanth Ravi in the cast. Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff play important cameos in the film.
