There is no doubt that Vijay’s upcoming film, GOAT (The Greatest of All Time), is undoubtedly the biggest theatrical release of 2024 for Tamil cinema. The film, which is the penultimate film of Vijay before he takes the political plunge, is expected to shatter all previous box-office records, most of which were created by the star’s previous films. Vijay has been on a golden run for quite a while now with his films becoming blockbusters even if they are not well received on the critical front. Such has been the run that AGS Entertainment, the makers of GOAT, have really dialled down the promotions knowing that the name of Vijay is enough to bring in the audience. And with reports revealing that the film is primed for a blockbuster opening, their belief in Vijay seems to be paying rich dividends.
Within a day of the booking being opened across the country, the film has sold tickets worth almost Rs 5 crore. According to popular trade website Sacnilk, the advance booking is showing upward trends, and as we near the day of the release on September 5, the film might just open to mind-boggling numbers in India. Notably, they have only taken the expected numbers of the Tamil and Telugu versions. The film is also being released in Hindi as Thalapathy is the GOAT, and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it one of Vijay’s biggest pan-Indian releases.
Many of the overseas distributors have already revealed that the film is making massive numbers in the pre-sales business. Apart from Tamil Nadu, GOAT is also opening big in states like Kerala and Karnataka. GOAT is expected to be released in 700 screens and 4000 shows on the first day. With no other major biggies releasing this week, it will be an obstacle-free run for the Vijay film.

Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT also stars Sneha, Prashanth, Ajmal, Prabhudeva, Mohan, Laila, and Yogi Babu. There are speculations that there would be a bunch of cameos in the film by prominent actors like Trisha and Sivakarthikeyan. However, the makers are remaining tight-lipped about these surprises. With music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni, GOAT is backed by Archana Kalpathi under the AGS Entertainment banner.
