AR Murugadoss is gearing up for the release of his latest directorial Madharasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal and Biju Menon in pivotal roles. The film is being touted as one of the biggest projects in Sivakarthikeyan’s career. Interestingly, Siva was not the initial casting choice for Madharasi.
During an interview with Galatta Plus, AR Murugadoss addressed rumours that Madharasi was originally conceived with Shah Rukh Khan as the lead during its early scriptwriting stages. Muragadoss confirmed, “Long back, when I had the core idea for Madharasi, roughly 7 or 8 years ago, I got a chance to narrate the basic character in the film to Shah Rukh Khan sir. I did not have the full written script at that point.” The director added, “It was a very sweet interaction, and he even agreed to do the film based on that one note that I told him about the character.”
But the project did not take off due to their busy schedules. “I messaged him after two weeks for a follow-up, but somehow there was no response from Shah Rukh sir’s side, and I lost interest by that point. I am not the kind of person who would chase after someone after a point. I just moved on with my other projects.”
Eventually, Madharasi found its way to Sivakarthikeyan. While discussing the decision to cast Siva in the lead role, AR Murugadoss said, “Recently, when I was thinking of this story again, I thought Sivarkarthikeyan sir would be the perfect person for the role with his fitness and flexibility and all that. Then I developed the character and script accordingly, and we did the film.”
