Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence’s horror-drama Chandramukhi 2 had a decent footfall over its first weekend in the cinema halls. Now, the film has passed the first Monday test too. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 4.50 crore (all languages) on its fifth day in the theatres. This brings the total collection of Chandramukhi 2 to Rs 28.95 crore.

In the Tamil-speaking market, the film witnessed occupancy of 31.82%., with the maximum footfall coming during the afternoon shows. The Telugu occupancy was slightly lower at 21.76%.

The P Vasu directorial started its run in the theatres on Thursday (September 28) with a decent Rs 8.25 cr collection. It witnessed a steep fall on Friday as it could only accumulate Rs 4.35 crore. However, the film picked up some pace over the weekend as Saturday’s collection was noted at Rs 5.05 crore and on Sunday, the film earned Rs 6.8 crore.

The film’s box office performance is much better than Kangana’s previous releases like Dhaakad (2022), Thalaivii (2021), Panga (2020) and Judgementall Hai Kya (2019). While Dhaakad could only earn Rs 2.58 crore by the end of its first week in the theatres, Thalaivii was worse with only Rs 1.46 crore in its first week.

Chandramukhi 2 has received a mixed response from the audience. The film, a sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2005 blockbuster film Chandramukhi, follows what happens to a new family which moves into a palace, which is rumoured to be haunted by the vengeful ghost of Chandramukhi. Kangana plays the titular in the film.

The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his film review, “There’s not a single original idea in here. Director P Vasu seems to have bet a lot on the nostalgia factor of the first part to help this film work. Chandramukhi 2, like its director, is just stuck in the past. ‘Let the sleeping dog lie’ goes the popular adage. Perhaps, it applies to ghosts and the legacy of films.”
