Actor Kavin made a name for himself with popular films like Lift and Dadda. However, his last two releases, Star and Bloody Beggar, struggled at the box office. In a recent interview, Kavin reflected on the failure of these films and the lessons he has taken from them.
When asked about the response to films like Star and Bloody Beggar, Kavin admitted that the reception to Bloody Beggar was “really disappointing.” He told Sudhir Sreenivasan, “Star, even with moderate reviews, turned in reasonable profits for my producer. So I am happy with that. But, I had a lot more expectations from Bloody Beggar, and seeing the cold reception to that film was really disappointing. I mean that was a project which I thought would do a lot of good for many technicians who worked on it, other than me too. We missed that with Bloody Beggar. As far as Bloody Beggar is concerned, I don’t think we can blame the audience’s taste and preferences for the failure.”

Kavin noted that the response to Bloody Beggar on OTT reassured him that choosing to make the film was the right call. “I’m not sure you can make one film exclusively for theatres and another just for home viewing. When we hear a good story and like it, we only think of how audiences are going to respond to that story. So once the good reviews came out after the film’s OTT release, that told us that we were on the right track,” said Kavin.
Kavin also expressed his wish to work with Bloody Beggar director Sivabalan Muthukumar again. “I am thinking of working on the things we thought did not work in that film and working on a new film some years from now, correcting all the mistakes we made in that film. Even if Bloody Beggar did not do well, I am not going to stop doing different content like that going forward.”
