After earning widespread praise for their powerful performances in Maamannan, actors Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu are set to return to the big screen together in the upcoming film Maareesan. Slated for release on July 25, this movie already has a fan in veteran actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the legendary actor revealed that he had already watched the film and praised its storytelling. “Watched Maareesan – a film that dances effortlessly between wit and depth, leaving me laughing, thinking, and admiring its craft. Had a wonderful conversation with the team to congratulate them on this delightful creation,” he wrote.

Haasan added, “Beneath its humour lies a socially conscious lens on human emotion and a keen gaze at the darker shadows of our society. The kind of inventive, spirited cinema I naturally gravitate towards – both as a viewer and a creator.”

Fans have expressed excitement across social media. “If Fahadh picks a script, there’s definitely something in the story,” one user wrote. Another added, “A win for FaFa is loading.”

Directed by Sudheesh Sankar, Maareesan follows the story of two men—one a thief, and the other battling Alzheimer’s disease. The unique premise promises a film that will tickle audiences’ funny bones and keep them on the edge of their seats in tandem. Besides Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, the movie also stars Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha and Telephone Raja. Maareesan has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with story, screenplay and dialogues by V Krishna Moorthy. It boasts cinematography by Kalaiselvan Sivaji and editing by Sreejith Sarang.
